Medical Questions

Horary astrology, or Celestial Divination is an excellent tool for diagnosing the underlying cause of disease symptoms.

In traditional Western medicine the doctors were always astrologers. They understood that the human body is a microcosm of the universe and therefore a holistic system, an ever-changing context for the play of polarized forces. When these forces move out of balance, the body seeks to re-balance itself through the manifestation of disease symptoms.

The human being (in line with the macrocosmic Creation) was represented as the playground of four abstract qualities (known in traditional Western medicine as 'humours'). In practical terms this is identical with the division of the circle of our horizon into four cardinal directions (north, south, east and west) in that there are actually an infinity of directions that a person could face at a given moment, but the world and all our journeys through it can be symbolically expressed and understood just by using combinations of the four primary directions.

From the perspective of the Northern hemisphere (where the vast majority of the populace have lived through history), we can easily see how these directions might take on abstract qualities beyond their mere spatial relation... hence, the north is cold while the south is hot; the sun is 'born' in the east and 'dies' in the west. We, as humans, are no different - we have both a wintry side and a summery side to our personality; our cells are perpetually dying and being replaced. In short, we incorporate a mixture of all four directions or 'humours' - but sometimes through our relationship to our circumstances this mixture becomes unbalanced and we experience disease (physical and/or psychological). The path to health is to be found in the rebalancing of our humoural mixture... and the first step is to diagnose precisely which humour is currently acting to excess and causing us to be ill.

Horary astrology is an exceptionally accurate and detailed tool for this process of diagnosis. Having established which element is acting to excess, in many cases it is a relatively simple matter to recommend dietary and lifestyle changes which can help to rebalance the body gently and naturally. For example, if someone is experiencing disease symptoms as a result of excess 'fire' (or 'yellow choler'), they might bring this under control by eating more cooling and moistening foods, by swimming more, etc. In more acute or chronic cases it may also be necessary to take herbal preparations to combat the excess humour.

Although diagnosis by medical horary is proven to be accurate over hundreds of years of use, it is not recommended that anyone ignores the benefits of our modern medical systems – I am not a qualified doctor and you should always consult your regular doctor (G.P.) for professional diagnosis and advice... and you should carefully consider their recommended course of treatments. If, however, you would like a second opinion about the likely efficacy of such treatments then a medical horary chart is an excellent tool for this – medical horaries are often used to judge the likely prognosis or development of your condition and in some cases it can be shown that the treatment you are receiving is detrimental to your greater health.
